Pakistanis ardent love of cricket can be seen in every street where the game is played with heated passion. But this is not because every kid playing the game wants to be on the national team one day; cricket has simply become part of our identity. Lala (Afridi), Gul, Misbah, Waqar, and of course Wasim bhai, all seem like family to 170 million people.
The Green Shirts defeated the Islanders in all the three formats of the game. They won the Test series 1-0, the One Day International series by a comprehensive margin of 4-1 and also won the only T20 of the tour, this is a tremendous victory by Pakistan considering the fact that the team has faced a number of controversies in the last five years and cricket analysts around the world had started to write off the Green Shirts.
The interim coach of the Pakistan cricket team, Mohsin Hasan Khan is extremely happy after the series victory against Sri Lanka and said that the players deserve all the credit. Mohsin praised the efforts of Pakistan’s captain, Misbah ul Haq, and said that he had played a huge role in gelling the team together. Mohsin did not take any credit for the team’s victory and instead said that the success is the outcome of the hard-work put in by the players. The former Test cricketer said, “Captain Misbah ul Haq and the team have done a great job. I am just trying to help the boys and doing my job but at the end of the day the players deserve a tremendous amount of credit for their hard work.”
The Sri Lankan team has been struggling big time since the retirement of Muttiah Muralitharan but they are still a potent force in International cricket. One must praise the efforts of the Pakistani team as they defeated Sri Lanka in all the three departments of the game; however, some question marks can be raised on the shaky fielding of the Green Shirts.
Mohsin said that he always had the confidence that the national team would beat Sri Lanka because of the recent form Pakistani team has been showing in International cricket. However, he expected the limited overs series to be a lot more competitive.
“Taking nothing away from Sri Lanka, but I knew that my team had a lot of potential and I felt that when I was given the job of coaching this group of players it was a case of trying to get the best out of them,” said Mohsin.
